Notification System
**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009** So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything. 01. Name: Mugs 02. How did you find out about Hogwarts Elite? I got no idea. I've been aware of it for ages, but I don't know where I heard of it first. Possibly some place like Encyclopedia Dramatica or Fandom Wank or something like that. In any case, I bookmarked it 'cause I thought it seemed neat. :D 03. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series?I'd been interested in reading for quite a while before I did. I uh. Read it for the same reason I read Twilight. And that's the last comparison you'll hear me making between HP and that jacked-up marketing sensation of a masturbation fantasy. If you're a Twilight fan -- no offense intended. We all got our vices. :D For me, it's an undying love of The Baby-sitter's Club.But yeah. In short, I'm a pop culture vulture and I like to know what's going on. So I hijacked my sister's collection shortly before the release of the last book. Flash-forward two years, and I'm getting dolled up as (fabulous 80's bridesmaid version!) Narcissa for the midnight opening of HBP. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series? my mom took me to see the first movie, and i loved it; i picked up the first book a few days after and fell in love with Draco Malfoy.. :) However, i read the first book and had no idea other books were out. even though i knew the movie left some kind of cliffhanger and that there was a second movie already being made, i just was too lazy to pick up the second book until after i saw the movie, but after i saw the second movie i picked up the third book and realized how much better the books are then the movies. lol. 01. Name: Jenna 02. How did you find out about Hogwarts Elite? My marvelous, darling Anna, who shall remain "nameless". 03. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series? What made me start reading it? I don't know. I was given the first book as a Hanukkah present shortly after it came out. I loved it. I kept reading them as they came out. I was never forced to read them, or persuaded to do so; it was common in my family to give me books as presents, and I read them regardless of what they were. I chose to keep reading them when I fell in love with the series shortly after the third book. I was still young then (probably thirteen or so?), but I devoured those books. I still read them and love them and... tldr; nothing made me read them, but I keep reading them because I love them. ( To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure! ) |

01. Name: Daliya 02. How did you find out about Hogwarts Elite? My good friend from school, raine_waver170 is a member of H_E and told me about it and how I should join because I would love it. Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but she eventually won me over with her descriptions of what goes on in this community. Her twin sister, krysti_ryou, is also a member of H_E. 03. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series?I first started reading the series in third grade when I came upon the first book at these book fairs that my elementary school had every month in the gym. I looked at the cover, saw the unicorn illustrated on it and decided I would buy it. I was hooked after reading the first chapter, of course. I think I was most enchanted by J.K. Rowling's beautiful gift of description and I loved how Harry was approximately my age. I loved entertaining that perhaps one day, I might get a letter from Hogwarts as well. MogileFS Maintenance
**EDIT Thu Dec 3 23:24:15 UTC 2009 ** Hey Everyone, we are about to run the last alter job that we need to on our database servers. This will effect userpics / scrapbook / vgift images for the next few hours. Have no fear, your images aren't lost, there is just a really intensive process running on the servers which store the information for mogilefs. Thank you for your understanding and all the LJ love... Hey LJers, I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be performing some mogilefs maintenance over the next few days. We will be upgrading our current version to latest stable as well as changing some db config information to better handle the amount of files we are currently hosting. This shouldn't cause a big impact on site stability, but you may see some minor delays with userpic / scrapbook images appearing or other requests associated with our mogilefs. We would love to not have that happen, but unfortunately with some of the steps we need to take we have to cause a delay with images. 01. Name: Alexandra 02. How did you find out about Hogwarts Elite? I was poking around LJ looking for an interesting journal and found alliana07 in an icon-making community. It turns out she had a Hufflepuff banner that led me here! 03. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series?As a girl, I always wanted to be an illustrator. One of my favorite illustrators was Mary Grandpre and while my mother was away on business in New York, she noticed a display loaded with Mary Grandpre illustrations and bought me The Sorcerors Stone. I had found this site a while ago and I have been mulling these answers in my head for a while and am just now putting them down. 03. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series? Ah, well, at first I was reluctant to read the series. I thought it was rather childish and not quite original. Of course, I was a child at the time, so the childish one was actually me. Anyway, I had to spend a summer with a couple of my friends who had lived down the street. They loved this series and gave me the first book to read. From that point on, I would spend every day of that summer laying in the sun or on the beach with them, chatting about the series. 01. Name: Emily 02. How did you find out about Hogwarts Elite? I think I’d stumbled upon it a while before, but I was finally inspired to apply from a link by sparklystuff (which was posted kind of an embarrassingly long time ago, but I’ve been working slowly). (Oh, and hai gurl.) 03. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series?A friend of mine recommended the first book to me way way back, but since she and I didn’t have similar tastes in a lot of other things, I didn’t read it right away. Plus, I usually like to discover new things like this for myself rather than having them handed to me. I finally started reading the series around the time the third book/first movie was coming out, when it was clear that it was going to be a Big Thing and I’d better get on it soon. And then I read it and it was amazing and I fell headfirst into the world—and I made some of my best friends based on a shared appreciation of HP. (So thanks, JK!) 01. Name: Jenna / quadrant_of_sky02. How did you find out about Hogwarts Elite? A while back, I stumbled upon a journal that had advertised for it. I didn't app then but I bookmarked the community for when I'd have more free time to fill out the application and participate if I were to be accepted. 03. What made you start reading the Harry Potter series? I stayed away from the Harry Potter series for a while. My sixth grade English teacher had recommended the books to me, but I wasn't interested in reading something that had become so popular. I was also in the middle of reading a different book series at the time. Later, in high school, a good friend of mine suggested that I give Harry Potter a chance. She had introduced me to some of my favorite novels, so I valued her opinion and decided to just go ahead and try. I fell in love, and felt a bit silly for being so headstrong about reading Harry Potter in the past. ( To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure! ) |
